ENRICHING LIVES Valuing Innovation MCC continues to provide cutting-edge technology in its programs. Each course provides its own unique tools that support the latest in best practices. • Nursing students are able to practice on life-size realistic manikins, offering students hands-on training without the pressure of human patients (photo on next page). • EMT students are able to gain working knowledge of an ambulance with the use of MCC’s training vehicle and new garage bay. • Distance learning is offered through an interactive video delivery system, bringing our instructors into multiple classrooms throughout the 11,500 square mile service area. • D2L provides a learning management system that allows students and faculty to communicate and share content. Nearly all classes have an online learning component. • Collision Repair has made the switch to a waterborne paint system, which is more environmentally friendly and has replaced solvent based painting as an industry standard. Our paint bay supports this change and features a down draft paint booth to more efficiently and effectively paint vehicles (pictured above). The program has also been awarded a $35,000 grant to fund a “Sim Spray Paint Gun Simulator” as part of the CCCS Immersive and Game-Based Learning Challenge Program. • The multimedia computer lab features five Apple OS X Mountain Lion desktops with 27” monitors and running Adobe Creative Suite 6. • We have a state-of-the-art microbiology laboratory. • Our classrooms offer the latest equipment found in a physical therapy practitioner’s settings. • MCC harnesses smart classroom technology with Extron—offering faculty the ability to access outside resources through a variety of mediums in the classroom. Four classrooms are also equipped with e-Beam, a smart whiteboard that is not only writable, but can project, capture, and print images from the board. Spruce Hall has been awarded “Gold” Certification in the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED), from the U.S. Green Building Council “The car industry is constantly changing. We need to be prepared to teach these new models not only correctly, but safely.” –MCC Instructor Brad Parker. • MCC hosted the Colorado Auto Teachers Society’s spring conference, which discussed automotive fuels and GM’s new “hybrid” battery. 6
