Community Development From Erie, Pa., to Ocean Township, N.J., Middle States staff members were all over the section helping to hold special events. In addition to the 14 Block Parties held during Tennis Month, the section embarked on a “Tennis at the Ballpark” tour. The tour made stops at five minor league ballparks throughout the section which resulted in successful follow-up events. Another highlight was the section’s pilot initiative, “Building a Tennis Community,” which resulted in over 700 new or renewed USTA memberships. In addition, 75 new groups registered to become an organizational member of the USTA. With all of the wonderful accomplishments of 2007, it’s no wonder the section saw a 4.1 percent increase in its membership. 17 Some of those CTAs were recognized nationally as recipients of several grants and awards. • Community Partnership Strategic Investment Grant • NJTL of Trenton • Northern Delaware Tennis Association • USTA Public Facility Funding Grant • Hempfield Area Recreation Commission • Slippery Rock University • Northern Delaware Tennis Association • NJTL of Trenton (National NJTL of the Year) • Orthotic & Prosthetic Assistance Fund, Inc.
